Fremont speaker excels in Toastmasters
San Jose Mercury News Weekend 29 Aug 2014

Claudette Good-O’Neill, of Fremont, was among 90 public speakers from various countries competing in the Toastmasters International competition, held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The speakers were selected from among 35,000 Toastmasters who began in local competitions to qualify for the international event. Good-O’Neill is an employee of SAP Palo Alto and a member of Wharton Quake Masters in Mountain View. Her speech, “Choose to See the Salt,” was a humorous and heartfelt take on life.

First District 4 Toastmasters Speech Contest for Youth Leaders
(Sunnyvale, CA, USA, April 19, 2012)
YLP The Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program (YLP) helps young people build their communication and leadership skills so that they may become tomorrow’s leaders in business, industry and the community. As part of this initiative District 4 Toastmasters will conduct its first speech contest for Youth Leaders who previously participated in a YLP sponsored by District 4.

The YLP speech contest was held on May 5, 2012 at Yahoo! Sunnyvale and is hosted by District 4 and Yahoo’s Toastmasters club, Yahoo! Yapsters. The speech contest was conducted by Sharon Corgile, DTM, District 4 Youth Leadership Director, Hemang Shah, ACB, ALB, 2011-2012 Division C Governor and Rita Barber, DTM, District 4 2011-2012 Lt. Governor Marketing. Several contestants competed at two different age levels.

In another first, Youth Leaders participated in a taping of the District 4 Toastmasters Bay to Bay cable access program and demonstrated skills they acquired. The show can be viewed online at www.d4tm.org/Newsroom/bay2bay.php

Resolution California State Assembly Proclaims November 12, 2011 as Toastmasters’ Day
(San Mateo, CA, USA, November 12, 2011)
The California State Assembly proclaimed November 12, 2011 as Toastmasters’ Day in the state of California. The proclamation was read on the floor of the State Assembly. Assembly member Jerry Hill, representing the 19th Assembly District (includes the cities in San Mateo County), will present the proclamation to Toastmasters District 4 Governor Jennifer Stephenson at the 2011 District 4 Fall Conference on November 12, 2011. The Fall Conference will be held at the Embassy Suites, Burlingame CA. The proclamation will be displayed after the presentation for conference attendees to view.

The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, the ability to communicate, persuade and lead in an effective manner is a powerful tool in overcoming many barriers to effective performance and advancement in virtually every endeavor and line of work; and

WHEREAS, being the largest non-profit educational organization dedicated to helping men and women in all walks of life to improve and develop their communication and leadership skills, Toastmasters International performs a valuable service to its members and others of opportunity, initiative, and good fellowship; and

WHEREAS, Toastmasters International was founded on October 22, 1924, boasting eighty-six years of outstanding achievement, and have grown to more than 13000 clubs and over 270,000 members in 116 countries worldwide; and

WHEREAS, Toastmasters International District 4 consists of over 220 clubs and over 4,200 members from Monterey to San Francisco including 32 clubs in the County of San Mateo located from the top of San Mateo County in Brisbane and Daly City to the coast side of Pacifica to the seat of San Mateo County in Redwood City. Both corporate and community clubs proudly list their home in San Mateo County.
