Do you know why we have District officers, and what their mission is? I didn’t know when I first joined Toastmasters, and I suspect that many others may not know! The mission of the district “is to enhance the performance and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program”. District officers help fulfill this mission.
We join Toastmasters to benefit from the program and become better communicators and leaders. As a member, we get the opportunity to practice our leadership skills as a club officer. Then if we want to challenge our skills even more, we can serve as a district officer to work on enhancing the Toastmasters experience for members outside our own clubs, and give more people the opportunity to benefit from the program.
What I love about Toastmasters is seeing members gain confidence in communication and leadership. I’ve certainly seen improvements in my own skills, and I know I have a lot more to learn over the years to come. I have also had the pleasure of working with many fantastic people who have helped me along the way. We have an amazing set of district officers this year, including 42 Area Governors and 8 Division Governors throughout the District. I’m excited to be working with all of them to build on our recent successes and help the clubs in our district be successful and Distinguished for another year!
Have questions? This web site provides loads of information about the educational programs and events in our District. Let me provide you with some of my favorite links within this site and the Toastmasters International (TI) website for more information:
-
Don't know all the programs and educational projects available in the Toastmasters Communication and Leadership tracks? Check out our Educational Program page.
-
Want to learn more about the DCP? Learn where your club stands this year in the Distinguished Club Program Reports. (Don't know your club number? Search for your club.) Questions about the DCP goals? Check out the DCP Manual for all the details!
-
Here's a handy one page summary of the Educational and Distinguished Club programs.
-
You can check who has completed an educational award this Toastmasters year in the District 4 Educational Achievements Report.
-
Serving as a club officer? See our Club Management page for tips and information. You can also find more information plus a soft copy of your Officer's Manual on TI's Club Officer Roles page.
-
You can't learn without other club members! Refer to our Membership page for suggestions about growing and retaining club membership.
-
Helping organize or participating in a speech contest? All the rules can be found from TI's Speech Contests page. I also suggest all contest volunteers and judges watch TI's new Speech Contests on-line training module.
If these resources don't answer your questions, I encourage you to talk to your club officers, contact your local Area Governor, or email dg@d4tm.org and I'll help as much as I can!
